FDA clears Momentis Surgical’s multiport surgical robot

Momentis Surgical (formerly Memic) announced today that it received FDA 510(k) clearance for the multiport configuration of its surgical robot.

Clearance expands the versatility of the company’s flexible robotic surgery system. It adds to Anovo’s already cleared natural orifice and single-port indications. The company said it makes its robot the first system capable of supporting all three surgical access approaches on a single platform.

Anovo offers flexible instruments, internally articulated to shift the point of articulation inside the patient. This minimizes external arm movement while maintaining true 360-degree dexterity at the surgical site. The company says it provides a more compact robotic architecture with fewer of the limitations inherent to conventional systems.
