Fujifilm Sonosite launches AI-powered ultrasound tech for peripheral intervention

Fujifilm Sonosite announced today that it launched PIV Assist, a new, AI-powered feature for planning peripheral intravenous (PIV) access procedures.

The Bothell, Washington–based company plans to make the offering available on its Sonosite LX, PX and ST ultrasound systems. It’s not yet available for the MT point-of-care ultrasound system (POCUS), which launched earlier this month.

PIV Assist supports users by aiding in the identification of candidate veins and assessing vein size. It then delivers feedback on the maximum cannula size based on the catheter-to-vein ratio (CVR).

According to Fujifilm Sonosite, real-time differentiation between veins and arteries during the pre-scan helps to support clinical workflow during vascular access planning.
