J&J’s DePuy Synthes launches MatrixSternum fixation system

Johnson & Johnson MedTech’s DePuy Synthes announced today that it launched its MatrixSternum plate and screw fixation system.

MatrixSternum helps stabilize and secure the front part of the chest wall after procedures like open-heart surgery and chest surgery. DePuy Synthes designed the system to meet patients’ needs in the operating room with stronger locking strength and faster chest fixation. It also features thinner, low-profile plates as compared to competitive offerings.

The company said its fixation system aims to help meet demand for improved chest fixation techniques, promoting better healing, reducing complications and speeding up recovery.

MatrixSternum delivers three times greater locking strength compared to the market-leading product, DePuy Synthes said in a news release. It improved fixation of the sternum during the critical healing period after surgery. The system’s multi-hole screw guides allow for a more rapid and precise plate fixation process, significantly reducing procedure time.
