Johnson & Johnson MedTech launches ultrasound catheter for imaging in cardiac ablation procedures

Johnson & Johnson MedTech (NYSE: JNJ)+ announced today that it launched the SoundStar Crystal ultrasound catheter.

The company launched the catheter in the U.S. for intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) imaging in cardiac ablation procedures. SoundStar Crystal provides clearer, enhanced image quality compared to other ICE catheters, according to a news release. Johnson & Johnson MedTech says it represents an advanced 2D ICE catheter.

According to the company, the catheter integrates with the Carto 3 mapping system for enhanced mapping capabilities powered by AI. This enables the catheter to provide an efficient workflow, while CartoSound FAM enables the automatic generation of the left atrial anatomy. A novel AI algorithm uses images collected from a rotation of the ultrasound catheter in the right atrium to achieve this. Altogether, it simplifies the integrated workflow for electrophysiologists performing cardiac ablation procedures.
