The system represents the first and only solution that integrates data from the InPen smart insulin pen and the Simplera continuous glucose monitor (CGM) sensor into a single mobile app. Medtronic (soon to separate its Diabetes business into MiniMed through a recently priced initial public offering) designed it to help people who use MDI to better control their diabetes. It plans to begin rolling out the offering gradually across Europe this month.

European approval covers people with insulin-requiring diabetes aged 7 years and older. It also covers children between ages 2-6 under the supervision of an adult caregiver.
