San Diego-based Modular Medical develops the MODD1 90-day insulin patch pump for adult “almost-pumpers.” It features new microfluidics technology to allow for the low-cost pumping of insulin. The system has a reservoir size of 300 units/3mL. Users can monitor the pump activity with their cell phone and do not require an external controller. The pump uses a provided, single-use, disposable battery.
MODD1’s new intuitive design makes the product simple to use and easier to prescribe. MODD1 earned FDA clearance for MODD1 in September 2024.
Now, the company said it took the next step toward scaling production for its pump cartridge. In a news release, Modular Medical called this capability a key differentiator in the pump space. It cited higher volumes needed for patch pump systems. The company says it designed its simple, low-cost platform from the ground up for high-volume manufacturing.
