One in four women will experience a miscarriage during their reproductive lifetime and half of UK adults say they, or someone they know, has been affected by pregnancy or baby loss. Research shows that 29% of women meet the criteria for post-traumatic stress one month after early pregnancy loss, while 24% experience moderate to severe anxiety and 11% moderate to severe depression.
But despite its prevalence, support within the UK healthcare system often falls short and what should be a compassionate process can feel clinical and emotionally detached, with women left without clear guidance on immediate medical decisions and facing months-long waits for any kind of mental health support to process the loss.
