Empatica Launches EmbraceMini: World’s Smallest Actigraphy Wearable for Clinical Trials

Designed for long-term monitoring and patient comfort, EmbraceMini sets a new benchmark in wearable technology for decentralized and real-world evidence studies.

Empatica has unveiled EmbraceMini, the world’s smallest wrist-worn actigraphy device, designed to revolutionize the clinical trials landscape through unparalleled comfort, data quality, and patient compliance. At just 12mm thick and 14mm wide—comparable to the size of an AA battery—EmbraceMini is purpose-built for passive, non-invasive monitoring of sleep, movement, and other vital parameters. With its sleek, minimalist design, the device eliminates many of the common barriers to wearability in clinical research, particularly in studies requiring long-term participant engagement and reliable adherence.

The EmbraceMini transmits data wirelessly to the FDA-cleared Empatica Health Monitoring Platform, where it is continuously analyzed to extract over 200 digital measures. These include biomarkers related to physical activity, gait, sleep quality, and light exposure—critical indicators for trials in conditions like sleep disorders, depression, obesity, and chronic pain. With a battery life exceeding seven days and the ability to be worn on various body locations, including the wrist, waist, leg, or ankle, EmbraceMini offers researchers exceptional versatility and scalability for decentralized and hybrid clinical trial designs.
